Northwestern Senior Jake Herbert hopes to lead Northwestern
to two dual wins in California this weekend. Nov. 20, 2008 EVANSTON, Ill. -- With winter settling in on Evanston
and the wrestling season heating up, Northwestern heads west to the Golden
State where it will compete in a pair of dual matches Sunday, getting things
started at Stanford at 2 p.m. CT before making the two-hour trip north to UC
Davis for a 9 p.m. CT match. NU, ranked No. 10 in the latest Intermat/NWCA
team poll, aims to improve its dual meet record to 5-0 in advance of its home
opener against Northern Illinois on Thursday, Dec. 4. The road swing to northern California marks a
bit of a homecoming in the young career of NU freshman Jason Welch, whose
hometown of Walnut Creek, Calif., is about at the halfway point between
Northwestern's two destinations on Sunday, Palo Alto and Davis. ON THE WEB Fans looking to stay locked in on Northwestern

Our Event Flyer - Please print out and pass out to friends Willowbrook high
school is bringing 80 fans to the match! Alums and High School coaches this
is an excellent opportunity to watch Division I wrestling and support two out
of the three Division I programs left in the state. Let us know if you plan
on bringing fans to the match. Please take the time to forward this
newsletter to your wrestling contacts, friends, and family. We have many
interest groups that should be receiving this newsletter. Our plan is to publish
it weekly so it reaches your desktop by Thursday afternoon. We have several lists your friends and
contacts can sign up for - please, send me an email at a-pariano@northwestern.edu Our plan to is to break our attendance
record at the NU vs NIU dual meet. In order for us to do that, we need area
high schools and junior high teams to send their teams to this event. Between
NU and NIU, many local athletes will be representing their teams in
the starting line-ups. Free Bus Parking is available and we already have
several teams committed to coming out to this event. Send me an email and
we'll list the high school and grade school teams that are expected to attend
next week. I will also be giving personal tours after
the meet of our wrestling facility and we can schedule a tour of our
wrestling room for coaches that bring out a full team to our dual meet. We
need to limit this to just 2 or 3 head coaches from each team. Send me an
email if you are interested. The tour should take about 15 minutes. Let's paint Welch-Ryan arena Purple &
Black. Wear your purple shirts if you are a NU fans and wear your red shirts
if you are an NIU fan. We will have seating for each team to make the fan
experience even better. Cheer on your favorite team at this dual meet
(we know that it will be NU). We will also
have several give-aways, prizes and other events to make the
evening much more than a typical dual meet. NU wrestlers and hopefully NIU
wrestlers will stick around after the meet to sign autographs. The first 100
youth that attend the match will get an official 2008-2009 Northwestern
Wrestling poster that can be signed after the dual. Give me a call or email me if you have ideas
on how we can increase the attendance at this dual along with ideas on what
type of events and activities you'd like to see. -Drew Northwestern in the
News Brief thoughts from Coach Pariano We competed well at the Purdue Duals and yet we have
simply touched the surface of what this team can accomplish. As a unit,
we learned that we can wear out our opponents and impose our shape on them in
the third period. The coaching staff preaches this day in and day out
in the practice room....we can out wrestle our opponents on any day, but the
individual battles that occur mentally throughout a match; we need to conquer
those hurdles as well. Training - The training cycle for the Wildcats has
gone well and we look forward to competing in California. It will be a
homecoming for Jason Welch, and we look to show Stanford and Cal Davis what
Big Ten wrestling is all about. Wildcat Wrestling Club - We have also begun our club
practices, and that means that our coaches from the Overtime School of
Wrestling have been frequenting the Ken Kraft Wrestling Complex. Sean
Bormet, John Kading and Kerry Boumans have been focusing on our technical
approach to the season and each time that they step foot in our WWC practice,
we become a very focused group. NU 2009 Summer Camp

Class Sponsorship Update: We Still Have One or Two Available...Call
847-491-4799 to reserve your weight class today! Each year we sell weight class sponsorships
and we look forward to a record-breaking year during the 2008-2009 campaign.
Currently, we have several weight classes that are available. Usually a
weight class sponsorship is around a $1,000 and is bid on by individuals or
businesses. This year, we are opening it up to classes. E.g. the class of
1999 is sponsoring the 125 lb weight class. The aforementioned funds are crucial to
supporting, maintaining, and most importantly building on our past successes.
If we wish to compete with Iowa, Oklahoma State and other top programs, we
will need to build up Northwestern's budget and improve the Wildcat Wrestling
Club's funding. 2008 Home Schedule This year we look to
break our attendance record at our December 4 dual meet against Northern
Illinois University. Please look to attend that dual meet and to help us
spread the word. We look to make this one of our big events this year
complete with wrestler and coaches autographs, t-shirt give-aways, a
Northwestern top fan award, raffle prizes and more.
